@mcnayart In 'Margarita Cabrera: Blurring Borders' you will find work from Cabrera’s series 'Pepita para el loro para que hable o calle,' inspired by Mexican parrots at risk of extinction due to the pet trade. The series’ title is from a Mexican proverb and in English translates to: A nugget for the parrot so that it speaks or stays quiet. 🦜 Fun fact: If you talk to the parrots, they talk back! As well as flap their wings, as seen in this video. 💚 - #McNayArtMuseum #BlurringBorders #MargaritaCabrera ♬ original sound - McNay Art Museum
@mcnayart Honoring a legacy 🌸 This Mother's Day, we celebrate the remarkable work and lasting impact of the late artist, Nivia Gonzalez. We express our immense gratitude to the artist's twin daughters, Regina Antelo (@Reginaaye105) and Selena Watson, who recently donated an untitled piece by their mother. The San Antonio native's painting finds its forever home at the McNay, a tribute to her roots in this community and a beacon of inspiration for generations to come. Experience Nivia Gonzalez's poignant artwork, on view now in the upstairs Oppenheimer Gallery, and tell us what her work has meant to you. ▶️ Hear the full conversation with the sisters in their "McNay Story" on our YouTube channel.
